SUNDAY 16th MAY: Sue and Will came to see the pups, I tried hard to keep the babies quiet all morning so they would be fresh, but they wasted so much energy shouting to be let out of the day pen that they slept through the whole of the visit, I was mortified. So Sue is having to come another day to decide if her Mr Right is in the litter, hard to chose from sleeping bundles of fluff, however cute they may be. Minutes after Sue and Will left the pups were up and running about, That famous SODS LAW at play again.
MONDAY 17th MAY: The pups were introduced to GRASS, although they have been out on the patio to play the last few days and have been encouraged to go out to empty, Charlotte took them next door to play on her garden. The pups were like spring lambs leaping about and playing chase, they also discovered Jamie's sand pit which is now been carried over the wall and put on the patio for them to play in, they love digging and rolling in the sand and they love it even more when Jamie goes out and joins them playing in the sand.
TUESDAY 18th MAY: The pups first Car drive...and nobody was sick or weed or Empties...until we were pulling into the drive at the vets!
Although the vets who do the hearing and eye tests are just over an hours drive away at Hythe, Southampton it took nearly two hours as the traffic at 7.30am was just bumper to bumper most of the way, thankfully we had allowed extra time. We met lots of admiring people and everybody wanted a cuddle. Both the eye specialist and the hearing vet, had much praise for the pups and said what beautifully behaved babies they were (its always good to say nice things to proud nanna's!) I was not really concerned as the pups are genetically clear of CEA as both parents have been tested and I was happy from watching the pups play that they all had some type of hearing, neither a less it was nice to receive the paperwork to say they are all perfect puppies in everyway.
Richard was pleased to be able to see Apollo get his hearing tested, for those that have never seen it done, the baer system read the mental brain waves reacting to sound. The pups have electrical needles pushed under the skin on their heads ( abit like acupuncture) and a head phone is held close onto alternative ears, pups with normal hearing will have some type of brain activity as they hear the sound, and if they don't hear sound then obviously no reaction.
The pups wailed for most of the journey there and back so were exhausted by the time we got home...and so was I. After a short snooze we all went off to play in charlottes back garden.
Wednesday 19TH MAY. Not a good start to the day, Tasha decided to leap over the puppy pen, she forgets she is an old lady and must have clipped the top of the pen, anyway there was a yelp followed by lots of blood all over the carpet, washed her feet and found that she had pulled out a nail on her front left toe. So lots of salt wash and bandaging to keep it clean, dithered about a vet visit, but have decided as its no longer bleeding and she is not limping or seems to be in pain, that I will just keep a close eye on it and will pack it full of antibacterial wound powder and keep a clean bandage over her foot. Having parted with nearly £300 for the hearing and eye vet yesterday, could do with no more vet bills for a while.lo
Visitors again tonight, tony and sandy liddell are coming to puppy play as well as having a show meeting. Our champ obedience show is only in two weeks time and we have masses of work still to be done. hey ho no rest for the wicked.
