Well for the last four years people have kept asking me, When are you going to breed from Trio, cause we would love a puppy from her. But I kept putting it off. Two reasons one she is my baby, she is special. And as I still have my oldies, Tasha and Tamsin, any new puppy would put the older dogs noses out of joint and I love my girls so much I didn't want to upset them. The second reason is, I truly believed she was barren. She has always been a Victorian prude, she never plays sex games with the other dogs and keeps her tail over her tuppence, like a well brought up lady. I did half heartedly take her to be mated last spring, but she just wanted to play tuggy toys with the stud dog, so confirmed in my mind that she was destined to never be a mother. However in January she came into season, and my husband talked me into one last chance, and I paid to have her blood tested. Both I and the vet was stunned when the test came back that she was ovulating early in her season, so the clock was ticking and I had thirty six hours to get her mated!
I have been looking for a stud dog since she was born, lots of lovely dogs out there but none that was perfect for Trio. I had toyed with the idea of using my friends dog Silver as he has the most super temperament, very sweet, bidable, a good worker and similar in type to Trio, the down side was he was not K.C.registered. So I thought about using silvers sire who WAS k.c.reg. but was then told that he had passed away. So I decided that a litter of little silvers would be nice, even if it meant they would be Working Sheepdogs not Border Collies.
Trio for the first time in her life was in LOVE she and silver had a wonderful time courting, it was all very romantic, but although Russell had read the manual to Silver, Silv just could not get it right. So onto plan C. and I phoned Lorna in Oxford, to see if we could use, her Diesel or his son DJ. Lorna and Simon were in a state of shock as Simons dad had only passed away a few hours before, but yes I was welcome to rush up to oxford for a mating. So off we went with only six hours left on the clock, I truly am very grateful to Lorna and Simon for their help.
DJ is a lovely boy, and has produced some super pups in the last few months so now we sit and wait to see if Trio is in whelp. Only another Five and a half weeks to go.
