Re : Tamerrye Celtic Laird (Miller) I found out last night (Tuesday 05 June 2012) that one of the dogs from Miller's mating to Kim Watson's Spice (Nobite Breakin The Rules) has started to fit. He ran into a wall and had cluster fitting the next day and consequent days. Whilst I am not in the Obed ience circuit, I feel that people are entitled to know of this. The 2 breeders of Millers other matings have also been informed. We know that trauma can be a cause of fitting but I am not prepared to take that risk (or heartache) so I have therefore made the decision not to use Miller at stud again. This decision has been made purely on the information that I have been given in this circumstance and I feel that it is the only option open to me. My heart goes out to the dog and owner concerned. To all Miller's other pups and owners, I can only hope that you get as much enjoyment from them that my lovely man has given me.
Trio and D.J's pups have just celebrated their first Birthday. I am really pleased with all the litter, as is the owners, they have all got superb temperaments, just like their great granny Tamsin, I have added the latest updates from all the babies:
Apollo has started to mature in to a lovely boy, he was very vocal when uncertain, as a puppy and would WOO WOO at the other dogs at club, but with the aid of a water bottle (he hates to be squirted with water for shouting!) he is now a treasure to have and is happy in any environment. In May he started a little bit of training at dog club, in the competition class, and as he is so fixed on his bally he is a treat to work, always up for it, although we need to work on his turns and his presents. Charlotte will now take over his competitive training as she wants to work him at the shows, she is new to this sport, although being the great granddaughter of one of the countries top obedience handlers she should be expected to know a few things. However like all children she refuses to be trained or be given advice by her mother, so will now be training with Russell Becque. Tora, is now a little lady, She had her first season about her birthday, it has changed her completely, She was kept away from her brother for the three weeks and during this time discovered that I could be as much fun as her brother and all of a sudden was keen to do training, rather then having to be jollied into it, have yet to start on scent and sendaways but really pleased with the way she has come on by leaps and bounds, She is the complete opposite of her brother and where as he ignores food in favour of his ball, whilst training, she wants her wages in titbits. She has a touch of her granny tasha in her and is very possessive of me, and bullies Apollo if he is trying to get on my lap, If Apollo is playing on his own with toys she has to go and take them off of him and then sits with her back to us whilst she destroys the toy. Both the pups spend hours playing like a cat with their toys, lying on their backs throwing their tuggies into the air and catching them with their front feet (strange dogs.lol). We have just come back from a holiday in the New Forest and all the dogs are a treat and a pleasure to be with, good with people, other dogs and all animals and they just adore children and are so gentle with them, they can be trusted off lead to do as they are told. At home they are both very sheepy and will cat watch or herd the cat for hours, and yet the new Forest ponies and cattle provided no attraction for them. Maybe it just our cat they like to herd! They are also great fun with the dressing up box and the kids often put hats, sunglasses, scarfs ect on the pups and they sit there quietly looking pleased with their selves. Jamie's latest craze is to put hair bows in Tora's hair and at club last week I was horrified to notice that Tora was wearing pink nail varnish! As for the other in the litter, I have had such lovely reports back from all their owners, Janet and Terry with Kato in Devon, have just been on Holiday to Yorkshire they say the they had a, wonderful holiday with glorious weather, and walked 61 miles with the dogs, they took them on the steam train from Pickering to Whitby & back, ate fish & chips on the pier, & visited the Eden Camp museum where the dogs accompanied them through the exhibitions without hesitation. Kato was a real star & behaved so well, walked through fields of livestock without a backward glance & even learnt to swim properly in a lake. Janet says he is very clever but his training is confined to the garden, weather permitting, as there are no local training clubs with in reach, however Kato loves loves every minute of his training. As for Fonzi and Sue, She is delighted with him, not just his keenness to please in his first few baby agility classes but also he is so responsive in his Obedience classes at Andover d.t.c. and was fast tracked to a higher class after only three weeks. He has already taken his K.C.Good Citzen test and got his first rosette:o). he is a delight and a really cuddlier and so good with other dogs and children that he is a pleasure to take anywhere. Swiper and Jane, are also enjoying their selves and the agility circuit is in full swing so they are off to shows most weekends where swiper enjoys showing off, he can be a bit Vocal. Well, in fact Jane said in her last email: He is such a lovely boy, very full on and vocal, tells everyone all that is going on as he snuggles in. Struggling to get a picture of him screaming with his porcelain water bowl in his mouth! ..... Just as well his chosen sport is agility cause screaming with excitement during heelwork, would not be acceptable LOL. Swiper still gets very excited if he spots a child in the distance and wiggles from his nose to the tip of his tail in greetings and poor Jane gets dragged over for swiper to say hello. On his visits here he likes nothing better then sitting on the sofa with my four year old granddaughter Jamie, snuggled up close and helping her eat her packed lunch from her lunch box! Finally our Tipper, although Maureen does not send me any updates on the computer I do get to see Tipper at club most weeks, he is every bodies favourite and for a thirteen month old puppy, does extremely good heelwork and set excersies, in the top competition class. He loves giving "lovies" to anybody who will let him. Off lead he is a pleasure to walk, stays close to heel when asked and does very good instant downs at a distance, however Maureen has a bad back and has had on occasions had to walk him on a lead, where he is very naughty when excited and pulls on two legs whist squealing with excitement, his first few visits to his agility club he was brilliantly behaved but he is now starting to get a little OTT which maureen finds hard work, however its like he has a turbo switch when in domestic situation or out on a general walk he is so calm and well behaved, but with out much effort he is easy to hype. Tipper like Apollo and Tora is also a great Cat watcher and spends ages with his nose poked through his neighbours fence watching their cat sun bathe, no malice, and when he comes across the cat in real life he is most gentle but its the fascination of them, when are they going to move and in what direction? lol. Well, my new years resolution to keep my web site updated failed almost as soon as I made it, we are now midsummer and no updates since before Christmas.
We have some very sad news to announce, Our Tamsin was diagnosed as having cancer at the end of January, at nearly 13 she was still as bonny as a puppy and no grey whiskers anywhere, but suddenly the haws started to sweep across her eyes, so off to the vets, where we were devastated to be told it was cancer, two weeks later she became blind, and very wobbly on her back legs, swallowing dry food was diffcult, and the awful decision had to be made, to let her go. Even now as I type the tears are pouring down my face, she was a wonderful bitch, loved all people and other animals, never a cross word said and I am so grateful to having her in my life. Her wonderful nature and temperament has been inherited by all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (now numbering in total 81 puppies) and when I see her descendants at shows, I can recognise my tamsin looking at me through their eyes. Onto the positives. Tamerrye Kiss chase, Jo and Jesse, won out of B with a flourish last season and are now B and C, getting placed every week and the collection of blue rosettes are growing. Tamerrye Causing Chaos is C only, Tamerrye The Shadow, only needs one more point to be B excellence it would be nice for her to win out of B before she retires, but she is now starting to show signs of her age when it come to send aways, however she has no bother getting clear rounds in Agility. Tamerrye Celtic Laird has become the proud father of another two litters, with pups now in several countries. I am thrilled to say that he is leaving his mark and all his pups have inherited his sweet nature and good head. His pups are even starting to show their mark in the ring and at 13 mths, pups from his first two litter are getting placed regularly in Novice. Rosettes are nice but more then anything I wish them all a long and happy and healthy life with their new owners. Forgot to say. BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Tamerrye Celtic Warrior "Deli" who won out of novice in his first six shows! Also Tasha's grandson Folley who won out of Novice at the same show. And Tamerrye Causin Chaos"Remy" who would have got a qualifer at his first attempt at C if he had done scent. And Jesse James who had another Blue rosette in B. Well done all my babies. A Very Proud nanna.
Sorry Have been busy, did keep notes in my puppy diaries just have not had time to update my web site, so for those who are interested here is the last two months news and updates.
20th August: Just had a flying visit from Tipper (boots) and his mum. It was lovely to see him and he has grown into a very handsome boy, during his visit his ears went up into two pricked ears, his mum was astounded, but are both going to stay up, or will one stay down, like his sister Tora's are at the moment. Checked his teeth and his new set are coming through nicely and he has a good scissors bite, whereas Apollo at the moment is a little undershot. (giving him lots of bones to encourage a good jaw). But as pups are only four mths old there is plenty of time for change. Interesting talking to Maureen on similarities, Training is coming on well but Tipper has only in the last week managed to do some simple heelwork and a watch. Tipper is a gardener and has left countless holes in their immaculate lawn, he also loves to destroy newspaper and paddles in water. He is a delight to take out and is adored by every body and every dog he meets, brilliant with children and just a joy to own......pleased that my babies all continue to be as sweet natured as my girls. FOUR MONTHS 7th August: Just back from a few days camping in the new Forest. We had a lovely time despite the constant rain and the dogs have come home exhausted and muddy. Why is it always sunny in Portsmouth whilst we are away...only a few miles down the road.LOL. Really pleased with the Tora and Apollo, they have been so well behaved whilst we have been away, (apart from the occasional bark at other dogs passing the tent). Was worried about them spooking the ponies, so the first few days they were put back on lead when we saw any new forest ponies in our path, but whilst stopping to pick up after one of the dogs I was horrified to see a mare and young foal in front of us and the foal and pups were sniffing each other..... no reaction other then normal curiosity and pups were soon bounding off after the big dogs again. Phew, thank goodness the pups seem to be good with livestock, makes it so much easier. whilst out in the country. Both pups are very vocal, Apollo being quite easily spooked will bark at anything, Tora will then often join in just for the sake of it as she is generally a strong brave bitch, but likes the sound of her own voice. We also discovered that both Apollo and Tora are like their mother and when walking as a pack, on lead, they want to be in front, if david has the older dogs in front then Trio, Tora and Apollo all start to squeal and pull like mad on two legs. However they are now pretty reliable at instant downs and recalls...not sure if I could stop them in full flight after a deer...but at least they were very good and a pleasure to walk with in the New Forest and many people stop to comment at how spectacular they looked when they all dropped on command whilst encountering others on the footpaths. The pups ate well on holiday, all that fresh air and exercise, but in the last few weeks I have been concerned on Tora's picky eating habits, she is reluctant to eat more then a third of the recommended puppy food, often refusing to eat her meal at all, but as she looks fit and healthy, her coat has a nice sheen and her ribs well covered, so I guess I am just being a neurotic Owner, not helped by the fact that Apollo eats like a horse. Brother Tipper (boots) has also been a picky eater and Maureen has changed his diet, he adored his Weetabix but was then not eating any puppy meal during the rest of the day, so she has had to stop the breakfast treat and has changed his food in the hopes of getting him to polish his plate clean. Apollo and Tora are ball mad. they are very laid back in training and in fact I have stopped doing any heelwork with them, as not getting the drive or the want at the moment, but get a ball out and they go mad, jumping head high to grab them out of your hand, with me squealing to look out, don't let them jump its bad for their hips. Also noticed that Tora whilst being tied up watching the kids play football, on holiday attacked the guy roaps with her frustration. Had to replace two sets of guys when hubby wasn't watching! she also gets mad and attacks the other dogs leads if excited, she is also eating her way through my home...most destructive puppies to date 1st August: Checked Tora's mouth was horrified to see NO TEETH in her front top jaw!! I know she is teething but it looked awful with all six top teeth missing, Apollo is losing his teeth in ones or twos so not as noticeable. The pups are becoming more o.t.t, If hubby lets Tora upstairs she is now leaping onto my bed which is over 3ft 6in high and Apollo is nearly getting over the stair gate when excited, so great jumpers like their dad. They unfortunately have also inherited another of their daddies traits......the ability to swallow things they shouldn't! This week Apollo was seen swallowing a sock! thankfully was able to gently pull in out from his throat, but a scary few moments, heart in my mouth. Apollo and Tora are great water babies and spend hours emptying the water bowl over the floor, or jumping in the bath or under the shower with jamie. (however Tora is not so keen on getting dried with the hair dryer!). The other bad habits they have is tearing up newspaper, in fact it doesn't even have to be old newspaper, the one you are reading is open season for Tora who chews a corner and then tries to pull in out of your grasp, Hubby does not find it amusing though.lol. They are also terrible chewers and diggers, bones, toys ect are constantly having to be retrieved from holes dug in the garden. THREE MONTHS Saturday 3rd July. (Twelve weeks): Tipper came back for a weekend visit yesterday, and it is lovely to see the three babies playing rough games, its as if tipper never left. Having said that his sister when he arrived immediately started beating him up, he didn't seem to mind but I felt she was being a bit on the dominant side, I knew she was the bossy one in the litter, but hey give the lad a chance to take his coat off and settle before bossing him about. Apollo was equally as delighted to see his brother, but he just wanted to hump him! (Do these pups have NO Social manors!). Decided to have a photo session this morning, the boys were delightful and stayed put for their photos, Tora was a "cow" and with in three seconds of posing her she was off at great speed and wanted to jump on David's head (he was lying prone on the patio with the camera) through sheer luck we did get some photos with her still in focus and within the frame. The pups have had their second jabs and are still meant to be in quarantine for another two weeks, but blow that they are missing valuable socialising time, so Trio has been up and back to collect my grandchildren from school. She is very good and sits and waits at the kerb and walks nicely on the lead (maybe she can teach her mother how to do that) and simply loves being centre of attention. She is still a mans dog, and makes a great fuss of any fellow, regardless to whether they like dogs or not. Its been to hot to do much training (another word for me being too lazy) but she is getting easier to live with as she just fits in with the pack. She is not a great cuddler and snuggler and once I have been jumped on and kissed she is off to do her own thing, nothing like her mother, granny and great granny who are all great lap dogs. However I did say I didn't want the Oldies noises out of joint and so they have been allowed to retain their place on my lap in the evenings whilst she sleeps curled under the computer chair. Tora's ambition this week is to be a mountain goat and she climbs everything in sight and eats everything that she's not meant to, however she plays very gently with Jamie, unlike Apollo who gets very rough and has had to be told off several times for sinking his teeth into jamie whilst they play, he just doesn't know his own strength. Still at this age, no problem he just has to learn its not acceptable to put his teeth anywhere near human skin. I think he believes Jamie is his sibling and not a higher ranking human, so Jamie has now got some special chores to do to elevate her. She feeds him, she lets him out of his bed in the morning and he has to sit when she puts his lead on, ect.. SATURDAY 19Th June: The pups are Now Ten weeks: Have heard from (Boots)Tipper, and they are thrilled with him, just can't wait for his second jab and get him out to show off. Also making headway's with Tora's training, she is giving me a bit more committed play, and we are working on instant downs, so getting there. However she is certainly a mans dog, any male visitors or family, she is all over them...as for me she greets me in the morning with a quick kiss and waggy tail and is off to chase the big dogs, David comes into the room and she is wiggling and performing in front of him. Went to dog club Thursday night, only for twenty minutes, but I wanted to not just socialise the pups but to work on their attention. (Richard took Apollo). I was thrilled with Tora she said hello to other dogs and pups but showed more interest in me and what I was doing, I did a few puppy recalls before the class started and then sat and just fed, fed, fed her, every few seconds, she couldn't take her eyes off me and even when friends came over to chat she was still focused on me. BRILLIANT. Richard was not as committed and he and Apollo just sat back and soaked in the atmosphere, but Apollo was also a good boy, no barking, no shying away or lunging and just watched everything with a keen eye.
Off to my grandson's birthday party, a picnic and barbeque in the forest so am taking Tora and possibly the big dogs for a day out, hope Tora is a good girl. We haven't got Apollo as he is in Brighton visiting Richards family, as they haven't already returned home, I guess he is behaving himself. Saturday12th June. The pups at Nine weeks: We were at a family funeral yesterday, so pups spent the afternoon in bed and the evening with a puppy sitter, You can tell this morning that I was going to pay for not paying them much attention yesterday, Tora has been so naughty, rushing from one mischief to another. She has found a new escape path via the designer wall, just big enough for her, but poor boots gets his head stuck! so at 6am this morning I had to wake Charlotte up to retrieve Tora from her back garden and have been busy since fixing the dismantled whelping box to the wall to make a more solid barrier. She then escaped when Jamie opened the door, now Apollo and Boots are as good as gold they just rush from mine to charlottes house, but not Tora, she was off up the road with me in my nightie chasing after her. Popped her the back garden again and put the board across the conservatory door so I could hoover in peace, she scrabbled, leaped the 3ft board and started to chase the hoover. Put her back in the garden again, a few minutes later I'm out pegging washing on the line, only to have her pulling the large towels back off the line and into the mud whilst she kills it, whilst I am tutting (or maybe that was Swearing!) I turn back to see her jumping off jamies play table, she had climbed onto a bag of compost then onto a bucket and then onto the table and was jumping off on top of her brothers, My god if she ends up with good hips I will be surprised, I had planned on rearing her with no jumping, no skidding up and down the stairs, gently walks. The little madam will have me grey and wrinkled in no time! She is now limping so I am feeling guilty as well as worried, I though I was an old hand at having puppies but you forget the trouble they can find.
As for Boots, well my friend came to visit last wednesday and fell in love (knew she would) but as she had already made plans for this weekend that couldn't be changed she is collecting him on Monday, she is still trying to make up her mind what he will be called, possibly Tipper, I did try and veto her calling him toffee...thats a goldie name.lol. Training is coming on very slowly what with the funeral and Boots adding a distraction, we are only fitting in a couple on minutes morning and night, but hopefully next week will get into a better routine of several quick sessions during the day. I still need to be more interesting as she is easily distracted. I have to choose my training sessions to suit her. First thing in the morning and last thing at night she is really up for it and plays tuggy and bally with me quite happily, the rest of the day although she bombs about I can not find the switch that puts her into working mode, even sweeties are not of much interest whilst she is in this mood. However pleased with the little bits I have got out of her when I have got the timing right. She is certainly different to her mother. I have deliberately not done anything with Apollo as I need there to be a distinct line between him and Tora...he is Richard's dog NOT mine, even though he spends a lot of time with me and I love my Apollo cuddles. Richard seems to be doing very nicely with his basic training Vaccinations were Wednesday and pups all passed the vet check again and had no adverse reaction to the Jabs, also had them weighted as they are too big for my kitchen scales...Apollo was a whopping 7.3kgs!!!! Tora just 4.54Kgs, half the size! Apollo has been in to school to meet Charlottes pupils, and loved being star turn. Tora just loves being the naughty one, and Boots is still lovely and a very active bunny whilst awake but still first to bed and last to wake and happy to settle by your feet or have a cuddle. Richard said that Apollo is a bit of a sulker, if told off he will go and put him self under the coffee table with his back to richard and will ignore him, until he has finished sulking! Tora like her granny Tasha will dip her head as if to take the telling off, then a few seconds later is off again with a "I don't care, you still love me!" attitude. Boots just doesn't like to upset anybody, for 1)he,never needs to be told off and 2) if he hears any shouting or telling off going on, he just lies quietly somewhere till its over, His wish for life is world peace! |
