Wednesday 26th May: Sue and Will came for their second visit last Sunday and still could not make up their minds, so they came back tonight for another play with the pups, it was a divided vote, but as he is going to be Sue's dog, she or rather Diego decided they were going to be a team. Really pleased with all my owners choices, so Tico is now going to be called Kato and is off on Sunday to Cornwall to live with Janet and Terry, Tora is staying with me, Swipper is going to Andover with Jane to start agility training, Diego is also going to andover to become Sue's agility partner. Apollo is moving next door, Just need to think about finding a home for our little monkey, Boots.
The pups are climbing the stairs at some speed, if the stair gate is left open for a brief second, Tora has even managed to learn the art of a speedy and graceful descent, the boys tend to hesitant on each tread, coming down. Tico has made it to the bedrooms on countless occasions and the first you get to know that puppies have escaped is when you here him charging around under the beds.
As Tora is staying she has started her training, She is not as easy as her mother, who thought I was wonderful from the minute she opened her eyes, but I am at least starting to win with Tora. To begin with, if I called and she was playing with her siblings she just ignored me, now she does make an attempt to get to me, if she is not rugby tackled first. She is doing puppy recalls, and we have even started on the dc with sits and stands, she is happy to do it for praise and a sweetie, but is not quite into her tuggy, tuggy is a game she plays with her siblings or on her own, with bits of my clothing, but I now want her to enjoy playing tuggy with ME.
David at the weekend when it was so hot, put some wire mesh on the Stair gate so we could have the front door open for a breeze, we checked and doubled checked that the gap was not big enough to stop puppies escaping, but diego still managed it, and whilst our backs were turned he was off, and was seen to toddle down Charlottes drive, thank goodness she was washing up at the time!
Having discovered the fun of the paddling pool, swipper has invented a new game, called empty the water bowl on the floor by splashing and scooping out the water with your feet, not only does this mean I have a wet floor and a wet puppy. but the others are not amused as they would like to drink nice clean water not one that had been paddled in. Saturday 23rd May: SIX WEEKS. Its very hot out and the pups tend to sleep all day and make up for it last thing at night and first thing in the morning by being manic, Little boots is comming into his own, you can almost here the calvary sound the charge as he gallops across the floor, scattering newspaper as he goes, he is still our sleepy bunny first to bed and last to wake, but has his very mad moments in between.
The pups have been enjoying going next door to play in the garden and Jamie's paddling pool, the colour of the water was disgusting after they had rolled in the mud and climbed through the bushes and then charged back into the water, Jamie's also had her tunnel out and the pups dived through it on there mad lap of the garden, almost as if they had designed an obstacle course. The pups have all been wearing collar and leads and walking nicely (if their siblings are not trying to play tuggy with the other ends of the trailing leads!) They are also using cages for their morning and afternoon naps, I put them in pairs and pop them into the cages when they start to droop, they might as well get use to their new beds as I am sure most if not all of you will have puppy crates for them, they make life so much easier for us and the pups. I am afraid one or two of the pups still like to deny its nap time and screech at the top of their voices to be let out, but the time is diminishing and they are now aware that nap time is nap time if nanna says so. Trio is still allowing them to sup, and has been very good with them, she has also started to play tuggy...or at least she plays tuggy with me and when the pups join in she continues to play a gentler version with them. I have slowly introduced them to cows milk instead of puppy milk ready for them to go to their new homes, and one or two of them seem to have an intolerence as they have produced soft yellow stools, so although I have put down breakfast on their puppy menu as a milky cereal, you may wish to just skip that and give them extra James wellbeloved instead, it will only be a couple more weeks before you started to faze out breakfast anyway, and the supper time egg can be dropped as soon as you think the pups are fully satisfied with their tea time meal.
