MONDAY 21st March: With three weeks to go I have been busy getting the whelping box out of the loft, sanding it down and must get round to repainting it in the next few days so that the smell of wet paint disappears before Trio starts to use it as her bedroom.
I am amazed at how big she looks, I took her measurements prior to mating, her chest (measured round the ribs behind her front legs) was 23" her waist (taken from the where the rib cage finishes) was 20" and the third measurement is measured round her girth just in front of her back legs) 16" at six weeks she now measures 25", 26" and 19". Of course as this is her first litter you expect a bitches shape to change dramatically, and she is short coupled, but, she looks like a barrel from the back! I took a few photos whilst out walking this morning (see Trio & D.j's page), although you can see a change to her figure it does not show the barrel effect. The change in her shape has not stopped her enjoying a good run whilst out on our walks, but in the next few days I would expect her to get a little slower and more sedate at home (sedate! not a word I ever thought I would use to describe Trio).
Taking photos of Trio is an art, its easier if hubby, David, is around but if I am single handed I have to tie her to a tree, I put Tasha just out of camera range, I then proceed to do D.C. with Tasha whilst Trio strains at the end of her lead to get to her mother whilst I frantically press the shutter in the hope of getting the shot I want. I keep the other dog walkers entertained with my antics! This morning I made the mistake of tying her to the wrong tree, and when I looked at the photo's theirs a Lamp post looming behind her. David Bayley I'm not. But as the weather has now deteriorated for the week (lots of lovely mud) I am not going out to retake the photos again.
