WEDNESDAY 14th APRIL: (Day 5) Well the pups have now been named (thanks to my three year old granddaughter Jamie who's favourite cartoon is Dora the explorer!) these are only their puppy names to help Identify them whilst they are with me, of course their new owner will rechristened them and their Kennel clubs names have yet to be chosen (although I have decided on a theme of POP GROUPS for theire K.C. registration ie. Richard would like Tamerrye Madness!...maybe one of the agility folk may like Tamerrye Blur VBG. I will not be registering the pups till they have all been chosen and then their new mums and dads can have a say on their favourite pop group). I have banned Richard from christening any of the Pups Apollo as although Benny the bull is his favourite, the pups changed so much over the next six weeks that he may change his mind. I know from experience, I like Flashy mismarked black and white bitches and have ended up with two small dark tri girls...cause by the time they were due to go to their new homes I just could not bear to let them go, I fell in love with their characters.
So may I introduce you to Tico (the one with the thin blaze), Dora, Swipper (the big headed boy who swipes all the milk),Diego (the classic pretty boy with the spot), Boots(with the black front leg, that is changing to ginger in front of our eyes) and Benny The Bull (self explanatory as he is like a bull in the china shop).
I am now back sleeping in my own bed at night, but get up at 2am to check on the babies, Hubby's not amused cause when I get back into bed an hour later I warm my cold feet up on his back. I enjoy watching the pups at night, maybe because time is my own an I can watch without being disturbed, they are so entertaining. If I can, I try to put the smaller pups on the best teats but its pointless as swipper and benny, even if the others are given a head start will still push their siblings off and steal the best milk pumps, they are also much stronger and if trio is lying on her back they can manage to stand on there siblings and reach the higher row of teats, then the poor pups below not only get the best teats stolen but get stood on and as the milk flows and the pups get excited they even jump up and down on the heads of the puppies below!
I know that all mums of new babies think their brood are special but I must say this litter is very very active and when they are not snoozing and eating they move around the whelping box with speed. Maybe I should put out a row of yoghurt pots and start them off doing weaves! I am afraid there is no sign of them jumping just yet!
